Bath Junior Gateway Club is holding a spring fete this year!
The fair is 1-4PM on Saturday 9th May.
Youngsters who attend a weekly youth group for disabled and disadvantaged children have celebrated the group's 21st birthday. The Bath Junior Gateway Club, which was set up in 1992, is based at the Weston Children's Centre, in Penn Hill Road. Organisers marked the milestone with a party, complete with a birthday cake and a guest of honour Bath Rugby player Kane Palma-Newport. Club leader Wayne Brooks said that for more than two decades the facility had become an important part of the community. He said: "The club has grown over the 21 years it has been running. "It has become more well-known over this time and has local members, as well as members from further afield like Corsham and Bradford on Avon. "We have had numerous volunteers over the years and the longest standing volunteer has been here 20 years." The club currently has 24 members but still has room for many more so is inviting anyone interested to get involved. It offers a whole range of activities, including sports, arts and crafts, trips to go bowling or to the cinema, music and dance. The aim is to support children who for various reasons are unable to access other social and leisure activities, either because of physical and learning needs, social needs or financial needs. For many of the youngsters this is the only opportunity they have for a night out with their friends and also provides a chance for parents and carers to have a well-earned break. However, Bath Junior Gateway is facing an uncertain future because its rent at the children's centre is due to increase dramatically at the end of the summer, so the club is trying hard to find new sources of funding so it can stay open. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer, member or financial supporter is asked to go to www.bathjuniorgatewayclub.co.uk or contact Mr Brooks on 07794 313318 or firstname.lastname@example.org (from: http://www.thisisbath.co.uk/Bath-Rugby-player-Kane-Palma-Newport-helps-Bath/story-18735102-detail/story.html#axzz2R7x40Hjh)
